FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All answers are for all gardens that are listed on the weddings page, except for the Japanese Garden, separate answers are listed.

What if it rains?
Alternate sites are available in case of rain. Ask about them when you schedule your wedding.
Japanese Garden - Ask for information when you schedule your wedding.

Can I decorate the area?
No. The gardens are rented as is.
Japanese Garden - Approved decorations may be used on the Pavilion and Moon Viewing Deck.

May I bring chairs?
You may bring up to 10 chairs, but you are responsible for removing them at the end of your rental period.
Japanese Garden - The number of chairs is not restricted except on Hill Arbor and Waterfall overlook.

How long do I have access to the wedding site?
You have the site for a two (2) hour time period. Most people have the wedding ceremony in the middle of this time period to allow guests time to gather beforehand and leave afterwards.
Japanese Garden - The rental time period in the Japanese Garden is six hours.

Is the wedding site blocked off or guarded?
No. The gardens are public and open to all during daylight hours. However, other patrons generally respect your privacy and do not walk through your site. Any serious problems may be reported to the Garden's security patrol.
Japanese Garden - An exception to this is the Japanese Garden, where the Pavilion and the Moon Viewing Deck is blocked off for weddings. Click here for information on the Japanese Garden rates and times.

How far in advance may I book my wedding?
A year in advance.
Japanese Garden - You may book eighteen months in advance.

Is there a place where I can change clothes?
Yes. You may rent the Bride's room at the Botanic Garden Center for $50.00 for a two-hour period.
Japanese Garden - Use of the Bride's Room is included in the rental of the Pavilion and the Moon Viewing Deck.

May I have my reception at the Garden as well?
Yes. You may rent space in the Botanic Garden Center as available or in the Gardens Restaurant.
Japanese Garden - You may have your reception on the Pavilion.

May I have music during my ceremony?
Non-amplified music or music provided by live musicians is acceptable as long as the volume does not disturb other patrons.
Japanese Garden - In the Japanese Garden, music is permitted as long as the atmosphere of the Garden is maintained.

May I have dancing at my reception?
Dancing is permitted in the Garden Center only if the whole center is rented, due to the possibility of disturbing other renters.
Japanese Garden - Dancing is permitted at the Japanese Garden on the Pavilion and the Moon Viewing Deck.

Is alcohol permitted at my reception?
At the Botanic Garden Center, white wine and champagne only.
Japanese Garden - In the Japanese Garden, alcohol must be purchased through The Gardens restaurant.
